Identify high hazard potential dams.
Perform inundation mapping on high hazard potential dams and Class I dams.
Rehabilitate any identified high hazard potential dams.
Determine how the community and its water sources have been impacted by droughts in the past.
Establish a regular schedule to monitor and report conditions on at least a monthly basis.
Gather and analyze water and climate data to gain a better understanding of local climate and drought history.
Identify available water supplies.
Identify factors that affect the severity of a drought.
Identify local drought indicators, such as precipitation, temperature, surface water levels, soil moisture, etc.
Conduct an engineering study to mitigate landslides and erosion issues
Procure anchors to brace large residential propane tanks
Use GIS or other mapping software to identify erosion and earthquake risk areas.
Conduct a study to evaluate inertial valves
Develop an emergency action plan (EAP) for all dams in the area
Elevate hazardous/repeat-flood ruined roads in Union and Pleasant Township: Schofield Road
Expand inventory of water rescue equipment
Install a stream gauge monitor
Voluntary buyouts (by homeowners) of those repetitive flood homes in Brown County
Ensure all eligible communities participate in the NFIP.
Acquire, Demolish, and/or retrofit flood-prone properties.
Work with the nearest Ohio State University Branch and/or Ohio Department of Natural Resources to identify most prevalent invasive species that may impact the County over the next five years.
Acquire transfer switches/ generators for all shelters
Build/establish shelters with generators for smaller jurisdictions and mobile home parks

Implement Nixle (or other mass-communication tool) via public education

Educate citizens regarding the dangers of extreme heat and cold and the steps they can take to protect themselves when extreme temperatures occur.
Ensure emergency shelters have heating and cooling stations.
Identify populations and communities that are vulnerable to extreme temperatures.
Increase tree plantings around buildings to shade parking lots and along public rights-of-way.
Create paper backups of any critical information.
Perform active shooter trainings in government offices, including schools, as appropriate.
Develop/upgrade county-wide storm water drainage plans to guide surface water through proper channels
Improve stream maintenance after severe weather
Install lightning detectors at community parks
Interoperability communications study in conjunction with Highland and Adams County
Obtain additional smoke detectors for community distribution
Consult Firewise guidance and encouraging or requiring best practices in your community.
Join the Firewise Communities/USA recognition program sponsored by the National Wildlife Coordinating Group firewise.org.
Sponsor Firewise workshops for local officials, developers, civic groups, and neighborhood/homeowners' associations.
Enhance snow removal equipment and supplies, including procuring enough materials for pre-treatment of icy roads
Identify specific at-risk populations that may be exceptionally vulnerable in the event of long-term power outages.
Include safety strategies for severe weather in driver education classes and materials.
Organize outreach to vulnerable populations, including establishing and promoting accessible heating centers in the community.
