If an owner has plates that are still valid, plates are to be used in place of a temporary tag, as long as the ownership stays the same. Within 30 days, the owner must obtain Certificate of Title from a Clerk of Courts Title Office and register the motor vehicle at their local Bureau of Motor Vehicles. (ORC 4503.12)
